THE LITTLE LOT

THE SPINNINGFIELDS COMMUNITY ALLOTMENT.

Nestled in Hardman Square, Spinningfields’ community allotment, fondly named The Little Lot, grows a variety of fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers, including broad beans, tomatoes, blackberries and onions, to name a few.

Whether you’re keen to get your hands dirty or simply want to stop and smell the roses, or the honeysuckle, mint and lemon balm for that matter, our community allotment is a free, accessible way to adopt a healthier and happier lifestyle, from soil to soul.

An urban oasis in the heart of Manchester, The Little Lot is looked after by a group of green-fingered volunteers all year round. It’s free to take part.

AN URBAN OASIS IN THE HEART OF MANCHESTER

FROM SETTING UP POTATO GROW BAGS TO REPURPOSING EMPTY MILK CARTONS AS SEED TRAYS, THERE ARE PLENTY OF ACTIVITIES TO KEEP OUR VOLUNTEERS BUSY.

A step towards sustainable living, allotments are great for the environment in reducing food miles and accompanying carbon footprints compared to shop bought alternatives. In addition, volunteering is proven to relieve stress and cultivate wellbeing – and yes, gardening does count as exercise!

It also sows the seeds for new friendships to bloom, where like-minded office workers, city residents and students can meet, collaborate, share skills, rewild their soul and reconnect with nature, in a fun and fulfilling way out in the fresh air.

All are welcome to join in at The Little Lot. There are sessions from 12 – 1pm on select Fridays. All equipment is provided. Volunteers are advised to wear suitable clothing, including closed toe shoes, long trousers and a sunhat.

The Little Lot also provides companies an opportunity to enhance their commitment to corporate social responsibility policy and to make a valuable difference on their doorstep. There are opportunities for companies at Spinningfields to reserve sessions for their staff on select Tuesdays, offering a wonderful initiative for team building. For more information, please email: info@spinningfields.co.uk

In addition, the space is not only a haven for us but also a habitat for bumblebees, butterflies, blackbirds and more – look out for a variety of wildlife during your visit.

The food produce grown is proudly donated to local soup kitchens as well as to the in-house café at Back on Track, a local charity that helps people rebuild their lives after homelessness.
