THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF DEMOCRACY, TELLING THE STORY OF ITS DEVELOPMENT IN BRITAIN: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE.
Through an eclectic and colourful mix of historic and contemporary collections, the museum celebrates the radical stories of people coming together to champion ideas worth fighting for.
Among the treasures you’ll find the world’s oldest trade union banner, a symbol of resilience dating back to 1821, and personal artefacts belonging to iconic figures in political history, from Labour Party leader Michael Foot’s infamous “donkey jacket” to the desk of radical thinker Thomas Paine.
Lose yourself in the wit and satire of prints and cartoons, capturing the essence of social commentary across three centuries, and admire the craftsmanship of badges and tokens; all a testament to the resilience of those who dared to challenge the status quo.
Each year there is a new exhibition of stunning historic and contemporary banners across two galleries. These colourful artworks have witnessed pivotal campaigns for representation and impassioned movements for peace and equality.
There is an engaging programme of events, and the museum is Family Friendly throughout – inspiring the next generation to be active citizens.
Visit People’s History Museum and be empowered by the past, to make a change for the future. We are all together in the fight for a fairer world.
