SPINNINGFIELDS SPORTS DAY 2024: A GRAND OPENING FOR THE PARIS 2024 OLYMPICS

HIGH-ENERGY SPORTS DAY EVENT

Coinciding with the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics on 26 July, our annual Sports Day event unfolded on a sunny day at Hardman Boulevard in Spinningfields. The event brought together teams from across the estate for a series of exciting races and challenges. The action-packed schedule included the 100m sprint, sack race and three-legged race among many others, each offering its own share of fun and fierce competition.

The energy was palpable as teams raced down the track, with highlights including some dramatic egg-and-spoon tumbles and Fazenda’s surprisingly speedy skipping performance.

The day was made even more special by the presence of Sally Walton, the renowned hockey athlete and medalist. Known for her remarkable achievements, including Olympic medals and a successful international career, Sally brought an extra dose of excitement to the event. She opened the day with an inspiring speech that energised the teams and shared her experiences from the Olympic Games.

Participants were thrilled to meet Sally, and her involvement added a unique touch of Olympic spirit to the day. Her interactions with the teams and words of encouragement left everyone feeling inspired and motivated, making the event truly unforgettable.

After a day full of thrilling events, the top three teams came out on top. Formtastic (Form Property) claimed 1st place, followed by ISIO in 2nd place and We Perform (Form Property) securing 3rd place.

Not to be overlooked, the event was also a chance to give back to the community, raising over £900 for Real Change MCR, a charity supporting those experiencing homelessness in Manchester.

After the thrilling Sports Day, the festivities continued at The Lawn Club, where the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony was broadcast on a spectacular 14-foot screen. The venue offered a prime viewing experience, allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the grandeur of the Games.

As the Olympics unfold, The Lawn Club will remain a hub for live coverage, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the action. With the excitement of Sports Day still fresh, we are already looking forward to its return in 2025.
